A Better Model For Burnt Out Gym Owners 2/3

Uncategorized May 26, 2020

Part 2 of 3

If you are reading this after reading part 1, I commend you, you have a growth mindset and are willing to consider that there might be a better way and that if you learn it, you might be better for it. Make no mistake about it, that makes you rare. Most people who read part 1 of this 3 part series will likely stop there. Parts 2 and 3 are too uncomfortable for them because they are already anticipating the future pain of putting thought to action, as you know, growth can be painful. The fact that you are still here is almost all that you need to know to be sure you can pull this off.

I want to start by diving into the questions that I thought you might be having towards the end of part 1.

Some of the questions that are probably circling around in your head right now are:

  • How would I even approach my members?” - You apologize
  • “How would I even choose the class times?” - You streamline based on use.
  • ...

027 Turning Pro - How Trainers Should Set Rates

Are you a coach who is still making 4/9th for a personal training session without explanation from your boss? Are you a gym owner paying your employees 4/9ths just because you were told that was the ratio to use?

If you are still choosing your training rates based on an arbitrary number, chances are it is costing you more time and energy to fill your time slots.

In this episode Larry and Dr. Sean breakdown the math to set your floor and ceiling price based on your geographic location. We talk about setting expiration dates and design packages to create urgency, retain clients and most importantly, make more money.

5:00 - Setting your price
10:00 - You have to pay to play
15:00 - Filling your schedule
20:00 - Cost to the gym
25:00 - Navigating the splits

A Better Model For Burnt Out Gym Owners

Uncategorized May 22, 2020

If you ever wanted to convert your individual design and personal training studio to small group, this is your chance, and this is how to do it.

Part 1 of 3

Individual design and personal training studios are a great business model for people who want the income of a personal trainer with the autonomy of a business owner. That’s about where the model caps out. If you are an owner of a studio like I’m describing here, you have seen the outliers who prove what I’m saying to be untrue, remember, there are always outliers, if you’re reading this it’s unlikely you’re one of them, and it’s time to challenge your dogma.

The individual design and personal training model has some major benefits in that you get to set your own rules, work with dedicated clients, and get industry leading results for them. The problem is that running a gym in this model is exceedingly difficult to grow a staff in, and because of that you will likely...

026 Turning Pro | How many intro sessions are right for your client

(Please note, this episode was recorded before COVID-19, ah.... simpler times)

Are you a coach or gym owner who is still trying to find that *magical number* of 1-on-1 sessions your new members need before going into a class setting? Are you afraid to tell a new member that they need 10, 15 or even 20 sessions with you prior to jumping into the group?

In our experience when we talk to most gym owners who are resistant to selling 1-on-1 sessions to a new client, the main concern is not that people don’t need it, but that they fear people won’t want or buy it.

In today’s episode Larry and Dr. Sean give you a formula to implement in your gym today to determine a custom number of 1-on-1 sessions for each client. We discuss the questions to ask in order to reduce the likelihood of injury and how you can use these tools as a selling point to increase competence and create a safer training environment.

025 | Tactics for Success - The Business Building Hierarchy, Pt. 5

The tactics are the top of the pyramid for your business; tactics are the skill and the techniques to deliver beliefs, habits, communication and the service.

If you have not yet created the stable base for The Business Building Hierarchy, head back to episode 21 on Turning Pro and start from Part 1 on creating your beliefs.

Some tactics will work, other tactics will fail but the number one thing you must always do is find the one that aligns with your values.

In this episode, Dr. Sean outlines a tactic you can implement for your gym that will be a “win-win-now”. This means that not only will your business win, but the community you are serving wins and you can get results, now.

024 | Designing your Service - The Business Building Hierarchy, Pt. 4

What service would you provide if money was not part of the equation, at all?

Most gyms didn’t start their business because they we’re looking to make money, yet most of the decisions that gyms make are guided by money. Services are created based on a dollar amount instead of being based on what a client needs to do in order to be successful and what that would cost.

Without understanding your beliefs, creating habits and communicating your message The Service doesn't really matter. If you haven’t listened to parts 1 through 3 of Business Building Hierarchy go back to episode 21. In this episode, Dr. Sean talks about designing your service, providing the right service for the individual and how you can create personalized results faster and more sustainably for the price you feel good about. At the end of this we want you to be confident about how to sell solutions, not time.
